Members do not need to know much philosophy but need to be willing to read material before the meeting and then be prepared to discuss the topic in a philosophical way. This means applying reasoned arguments in a logical manner and be able to balance various theories and apply them to the human condition. We use some historical philosophical theories, like Stoicism or utilitarianism as well as some more modern writers like Peter Singer or Julian Baggini. We analyse concepts like free will or virtue ethics. Philosophy is a process, you ‘do’ philosophy rather that ‘learn it’.
